Rules / Guidelines of
General Discipline, Conduct and Behavior for Students in the Campus

Character building is the main aim of education and the Jain College of Engineering and Research, Belagavi, lays great emphasis on good character and decent behavior from every student in the campus.

  • All students should be properly and neatly dressed on all working days.
  • The behavior of the students, both within and outside the institute campus should be decent and befitting to a professional institution.
  • Before proceeding for any industrial tour, field visit or to participate in any fest / competition, Student and parent / guardian have to sign an undertaking, which states “As a student it is expected that I exercise self-discipline, show courtesy and consideration to faculty, fellow students and the members of the public”.
  • To reduce pollution, students are encouraged to use institute transport facility rather than personal transport.
  • Any student, who
    •  is persistently insubordinate to teachers or staff,
    • is habitually irregular in attendance or inattentive to his work in the classes,
    • is repeatedly or willfully mischievous or obscene in words or act,
    • is guilty of fraud or malpractices at examinations,
    • indulges in movements which may lead to communal ill feelings or enmity, will be liable to be punished as per the decision of the Institute Disciplinary Committee.
  • Students should attend classes; submit assignments, etc., in time.
  • Students coming late shall enter the class only with the permission of the teacher. No student shall leave the class before the class is dispersed by the teacher handling the class.
  • Students shall move silently while in the corridors so as not to disturb other classes.
  • Students who happen to have no classes are not allowed to loiter in the corridors during class hours; instead they should remain busy in academics inside the class rooms or in the library.
  • Students are prohibited from organizing or attending meeting in the Institute, distributing notices or collecting money for any purpose without the permission of the Principal.
  • Instant agitation arising in the campus and disturbing the regular class work in the institute are banned.
  • The institute properties should be handled with utmost care and everything possible should be done to preserve the cleanliness and tidiness of the building, furniture, library books and the premises.
  • Based on the directions of the AICTE and Government of Karnataka, use of mobile phones in the institute campus is restricted. Mobile phones are to be switched off, when in the campus. However, it can be used during lunch intervals.
  • As per the directions of AICTE / Government of India, ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in the institute premises. Those found guilty of ragging will face disciplinary action from Anti-Ragging Committee / Disciplinary Committee followed by criminal procedures as per the law.
  • The class tests, assignments and course activities are to be attended by all the students with sufficient preparation.
  • Students must work quietly while in the library or spend time in such a way as not to cause any interference with the work of others.
  • Students must park their vehicles only in the places specified for the same, and should not use the vehicles inside the campus beyond the parking areas.
  • Under any circumstances, no student or outsiders are permitted to meet a faculty member while he is engaging classes or on invigilation work.
  • Students are expected to see the Institute Website / Notice Boards regularly.
  • Students should always wear identity cards and produce the same when asked by institute authorities.

Ban on RAGGING and Penalty

  • “Ragging” means causing, inducing, compelling or forcing a student, whether by way of a practical joke or otherwise, to do any act which detracts from human dignity or violates his persona or exposes him to ridicule or to forbear from doing any lawful act, by intimidating, wrongfully restraining, confining or injuring him or by using criminal force to him or by holding out to him any threat of such intimidation, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement, injury or the use of criminal offence. Supreme Court of India has defined ragging as a criminal offence.
  • No person, who is student of an educational institution, shall commit ragging. Supreme Court of India has ordered that “If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his/her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him/her from the institution.
  • Warning: No leniency will be shown to the offenders involved in ragging. All students are requested to note and co-operate in keeping our institute free from ragging.
  • In case of emergency, Names and Contact Details of the officials, is available on the institute website and displayed at major locations of the institution. 

Disciplinary Procedures

When a student violates the institute policy on campus discipline:

  • Parent/legal guardian will be informed and will be expected to meet the Mentor and Head of Institution (HoI) at the earliest.
  • The Institutional disciplinary committee will conduct an enquiry and submit the report to HoI, who will initiate further action as per the recommendations of the committee.

Policy Matters on Alcohol & Tobacco

  • The institute campus is declared as “Alcohol /Tobacco free Campus”.
  • If a student is found possessing /consuming Tobacco/Alcohol in the premises owned or controlled by the institute, the Disciplinary Committee (DC) will take appropriate action.

Policy on Drugs / Substance of Abuse

To prevent substance of abuse and to create a secure, conducive atmosphere for learning among the students on the campus, institute adheres to the following guidelines concerning the possession, use and/or distribution of substances of abuse:

  • Cannabis, Heroin, Benzodiazepines, barbiturates, Flunitrazepam, Cocaine, Ketamine, Psilocybin, Lysergic acid diethylamide, Amphetamine, Methamphetamines, MDMA, Phencyclidine, GHB, Methaqualone, Inhalants and
    any other drugs and substances mentioned in The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act 1985.
  • The possession, use and/or distribution of substances of abuse are prohibited on premises owned or controlled by the institute.
  • Institute squads will carry out random checks on students/hostels for substances of abuse.
  • Possession, use and/or distribution of substances of abuse will attract appropriate disciplinary action which may include expulsion.

Offenders will also come under the purview of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 (NDPS Act) and will be liable for penal action.
